Continuing Education Credit FAQ

Continuing education requirements vary by profession and licensing jurisdiction. This page explains where our courses are covered, where individual submission may be available, and when learners should verify acceptance before enrolling.

General Questions

Are all courses pre-approved in every state?

No. We do not seek separate course approval in every state.

A course may qualify for continuing education credit because:

  • It is directly approved.
  • The state recognizes an approval we already hold.
  • The state does not require course pre-approval.
  • The learner may submit the course for individual review.

What is the difference between "pre-approved" and "accepted"?

A pre-approved course has been reviewed in advance by a licensing board or recognized approval organization.

An accepted course may qualify without separate pre-approval because the state recognizes another approval, does not require advance approval, or allows the learner to submit the course individually.

PT and PTA Continuing Education

Where are courses covered for PTs and PTAs?

Most courses are covered in the following jurisdictions through Arkansas or Texas approval, recognition of those approvals, or state rules that do not require separate pre-approval:

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Dry needling courses may have additional state-specific approval and practice requirements.

Where can PTs and PTAs self-submit a course?

Individual submission is available in:

  • California
  • Louisiana
  • Minnesota
  • Ohio

We will provide the available supporting information needed for submission. The licensing board makes the final decision.

Which states may require separate PT/PTA approval?

Separate provider or course approval may be required in:

  • Illinois
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • West Virginia

Learners in these states should verify acceptance before enrolling.

OT and OTA Continuing Education

Where are courses covered for OTs and OTAs?

Courses are generally covered in the following jurisdictions because the state does not require separate course pre-approval or recognizes our Indiana OT approved-provider status:

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The course must still meet the state's subject-matter, documentation, and renewal requirements. Provider approval information will appear on the course certificate.

Where can OTs and OTAs self-submit a course?

Individual submission is available in:

  • Delaware
  • Louisiana
  • Maryland

In Delaware and Louisiana, courses are covered through AOTA approval; otherwise, learners may submit the course for individual review.

We will provide the available supporting information needed for submission. The licensing board makes the final decision.

Which states may require separate OT/OTA approval?

Separate approval or another recognized approval pathway may be required in:

  • Florida
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island
  • Texas
  • Vermont

Learners in these states should verify the requirements before enrolling.

Does an OT course have to be AOTA-approved to count?

No—not in most states. Many states allow relevant occupational therapy continuing education without AOTA approval or another form of advance course approval.

The course must still meet the requirements established by the learner's licensing board.

Documentation and Learner Responsibility

What documentation will I receive?

You will receive a certificate of completion.

Upon request, we can also provide:

  • Instructor CV
  • Course outline
  • Learning objectives

Does receiving a certificate guarantee acceptance?

No. A certificate confirms that you completed the course. It does not guarantee that every licensing board will award continuing education credit.

The licensing board makes the final determination.

Who is responsible for confirming that a course counts?

The learner is responsible for confirming that a course meets the requirements of their profession and licensing jurisdiction before relying on it for license renewal.

Licensing requirements can change. Learners should consult their licensing board when they need confirmation.

Will I receive a refund if my licensing board does not accept a course?

No. Course and subscription purchases are nonrefundable based on a licensing board's decision not to award continuing education credit.

Please review the information for your profession and licensing jurisdiction before enrolling.
