Description

7 Contact Hours / 0.7 CEUs The thoracic spine, made for stiffness and protection of the spinal cord and other vital organs, can be challenging to clinicians due to high level of false negative in diagnostic imaging techniques and the difficulty encountered when establishing appropriate differential diagnosis. The IAOM-US Diagnosis and Management of the thoracic spine online course takes an in-depth look at primary and secondary pathoanatomy, biomechanics, basic and specific clinical examination and interpretation, management suggestions and specific approaches to diagnose and treat thoracic and rib related disorders. This course emphasizes didactic or theoretical content that is delivered through online lectures and materials (emanuals*: course slides, study guide and suggested reading). This is a self-pace on-line course available 24/7. You can start and stop your viewing time as needed. It is segmented into lecture modules plus a final quiz to gauge your understanding. The study guide is provided to help focus your learning experience and prepare you to apply this knowledge into your daily clinical practice. This online course is perfect complement to the Differential Diagnosis and Musculoskeletal Management of Thoracic Spine and Ribs and Advanced Musculoskeletal Manual Techniques hands-on, lab-based portion. Target Audience: PT, PTA, OT, OTA, AT Educational Level: Basic

Objectives

  • By the end of the course the participant will be able to:
  • Integrate the pathoanatomy, altered physiology, and biomechanics into a report on differential diagnosis including at least one of the most common musculoskeletal pathologies of the Thoracic Spine and their consequent, common clinical dysfunctions (degenerative internal disc disruption (IDD) T1-T12, zygapophyseal joint dysfunction and degeneration, spondylosis/spondylolisthesis, functional instability, nerve root compression or more severe conditions such as fracture, tumor or systemic-inflammatory diseases).
  • Identify at least one common clinical dysfunction of the Thoracic spine and ribs in 3 different patient scenarios.
  • Identify 3 effective treatment interventions for acute, recurrent and chronic thoracic spine and rib dysfunctions and related pathologies through an accurate understanding of consequent tissue physiology of the thoracic spine.
  • Design a treatment plan for a patient suffering from acute dysfunction of the thoracic spine and ribs.
  • Design a treatment plan for a patient suffering from recurrent or chronic thoracic spine and ribs.
